Mansfields Design approached Blinding Light to work on the reveal of the new Focus RS on behalf of Ford of Europe. The brief was to produce a “show” rather than a typical news conference or product reveal. A concept that would rely heavily on the lighting.
The reveal was a 30 minute show that took place within an engine plant warehouse at Ford’s factory in Cologne, in front of a live audience including Ford employees, car enthusiasts, RS fans and the media.
A large ground support was erected within the warehouse space using Litec QX30/QX40 truss to support a wide array of intelligent lighting fixtures as well as a 27 x 5 metre LED video wall and black drapes to create the feel of an arena.
Sharpies and Sharpy wash lights were utilised along with Robe Robin 600 LED wash lights and LED fireball QUAD floor par 64s to light the main stage area and provide effect and backdrop lighting throughout the presentation.
18 LED Lumipar 7 fixtures were embedded within the walls of a turntable that was assembled in the middle of the arena to create a key focal point and podium for the new Focus.
Two Robert Juliat Flo followspots and SGM P-5s were also used to light a procession of cars that entered the arena to mark a 48 year legacy of Ford RS vehicles.
All the lighting fixtures were programmed and controlled on site via a Chamsys MQ100 desk.
